4-H Shooting Sports

Did you know that 4-H has a shooting sports club? Approximately 45% of the homes in the U.S. have firearms. Safe and responsible handling of firearms is vital to prevent accidents at home or next door. We meet twice a month, on the 3rd Thursday for the information/educational 4-H meeting and on the 3rd Sunday, at the Dahlstrom Ranch off FM 967 in Buda for 4 hours of shooting.

Shooting Sports includes: Archery, Muzzle Loading, Pistol, Rifle, and Shotgun with qualified instructors for each discipline and Range Safety Officers always present. These disciplines teach safety, concentration, self-discipline, self confidence, goal-setting, decision-making and courtesy to young people as they learn basic skills and build toward more advanced activities. Whether you are an occasional shooter or try your hand at local competitions, you will enjoy Hays 4-H Shooting Sports Club!

For more information, please contact the club co-managers, Rhonda S. Cox at rsdrake@austin.rr.com or Connie Moy at kmoy@austin.rr.com or visit our web site at www.hays4hshooting.com.

Sportsfishing Project - September 10, 2011

The Sportfishing Project group will have its first outing on September 10.  We will be meeting at the 4-H building at 8:00 to go to Mustang Creek Ranch for the following:

Community Service:  We would like to give back to the Sheldons who have generously allowed us to fish on their property several times, so we will be doing some Riparian management as part of a wildlife management plan.  If you have long bladed hedge trimmers and work gloves, please bring them.

Fishing:  After working for a couple of hours, we’ll do some bass fishing, so bring your fishing poles.

Party: Finally, the Sheldons are offering to have a hot dog and hamburger roast for the kids and families.  We’ll also swim and play pool.  We need to know how many kids and adults will be there.  Parents and siblings are welcome!
